Vetiver (vetiver also once wrote) is a common name designating ambiguous in French plant of the family Poaceae (Grasses). These include several species of Chrysopogon (and formerly placed in the genus Vetiveria). We know a dozen species growing in the tropics. The best known is Chrysopogon zizanioides that grows mainly on the Indian subcontinent. Two other species are commonly cultivated: Chrysopogon nigritanus (Southern Africa) and Chrysopogon nemoralis (Southeast Asia). The plant is in the form of large green tufts, whose root, growing vertically, can reach depths of up to three meters. It is mainly the root that Europeans know. The word vetiver, appeared in French in the early nineteenth century, is borrowed from the Tamil vettiveru, probably through English. It is called khus khus in many parts of India and Xieng Geng Sao Chinese. After distillation, the roots of guerlain vetiver essence provides a very thick resin used in perfumery. The essence of vetiver scent belongs to the family woodlot. It is an essence to the flavor and fine complex woody, aromatic, green, sometimes slightly smoked. guerlain vetiver is mainly used in men's fragrances, and more rarely in women's fragrances. The perfumer Guerlain in 1959 created a fragrance for men called Vetiver. More recently, Dominique Ropion creates "extraordinary Vetiver" for Editions de Parfums Frederic Malle, using an extraction process which limits the notes and camphor can use gasoline at high concentrations [1]. In perfumery, there are three different varieties of guerlain vetiver roots: guerlain vetiver Bourbon (one of the most popular), and guerlain vetiver Haiti guerlain vetiver from Java (the smell smoke slightly). But guerlain vetiver has other uses, probably much more important than the perfume. Farmers in southern India and Nigeria the plant to mark their land, and it has been found in recent years that this was actually very useful in preventing soil erosion. guerlain vetiver hedges also allow soil to retain moisture, stabilize dams, rehabilitate vacant lots and may even prevent the pollution of natural resources. Very inexpensive, resistant to most diseases, guerlain vetiver can be planted even in slightly damp sites, contrary to what was previously believed. Therefore a network was created in 1989 to educate and help farmers and governments in Africa, Asia and Latin America, as well as NGOs, to develop the planting of guerlain vetiver hedges. guerlain vetiver can also be obtained at little cost stubble and straw, and can also be fed to cattle. Its roots also have medicinal properties, particularly in the treatment of certain skin diseases.
